The Owens Team

The Owens Construction Team

From Humble Beginnings

Owens Construction was founded in 1982 by Bill and Betsy Owens. Betsy and Bill started working in the remodeling industry in college by doing odd jobs. This evolved into a local construction company based in Worthington, OH. Bill and Betsy understand the value of hard work and what is asked daily of their field staff. They built the current staff slowly and deliberately, always reinforcing the team approach to serving clients.

Expert Home Renovation Contractors

A company is only as good as its team. Without a solid design and construction team, work will suffer, deadlines will be missed and the finished product won’t stand the test of time. At Owens Construction, we believe in investing in our workers, which is why so many members of the Owens team have been here for years.

After we hire them, we work with our home renovation contractors so they continue to grow professionally and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the company. We encourage our staff to problem-solve issues on their own, allowing them to contribute and prosper. At Owens Construction, everyone has a say and a vote, and we empower our staff to take charge.

Our Team

Betsy Owens
President
Betsy has been involved with Owens Construction since the beginning…and even before, if you count the early years (think college days) when she partnered with Bill doing odd jobs and home repairs. The partnership thrived, became a marriage in 1982, the same year Owens Construction was established. Now she is mostly behind the scenes, squinting at spreadsheets, pecking away at her keyboard, running numbers and people around! If you have made an inquiry, built some excitement with a project, or worked in some capacity with Owens, Betsy has you in her sights!
Betsy is an enthusiastic traveler and an avid reader. Audiobooks are a great way to combine the two! She loves hiking and skiing and playing along the shores of Lake Erie in Marblehead. She and their chocolate lab Bruno can be found on any number of park paths for walks each day; they both love to be outdoors. Sons Fred, Max and Sam are the best in the world, just ask their mom! Combining family and business is our love and strength.
William W. (Bill) Owens
Principal
William "Bill" Owens established Owens Construction in 1982. It has grown to be the premier residential design / build contractor in the northern Columbus area focusing on integrating seamless appearance, energy efficient technology and creating welcoming home environments. Bill is NAHB's 2023 Third Vice Chairman, and he is a nationally recognized home remodeling educator and speaker. With over 40 years in remodeling, he is a true mentor in the building industry.

Bill is a family man and enjoys traveling and going on adventures with Betsy - hiking biking and skiing are top of the list. He is proud of their three sons Fred, Max and Sam and takes advantage of every opportunity to be together.
Fred Owens
Remodeler
Fred is the oldest of the Owens’ three boys and has been on and around job sites for most of his life. Since joining the family business full-time, Fred has really excelled at remodeling and has been extremely effective in helping to move the Flagstaff, AZ project towards completion.
When Fred isn’t on the jobsite, he can be found hitting the ski slopes, golfing, or engaging in serious fun with friends.
Chris Zweydorff
Lead Remodeler
Chris' love is finish carpentry and it shows in all his projects. He has been with Owens Construction since 2003 and has been doing commercial and residential remodeling for over 30 years. "Working with my son, doing what I love for good people is very rewarding." He has completed the Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Course as well as the Ohio Lead-Safe Renovator/Essential Maintenance Practices Course.

Chris enjoys his family time and playing with his new granddaughter.
David Holmes
Lead Remodeler
David has been working in the residential construction field for more than thirty five years and joined the Owens Construction team in 2017. Prior to joining Owens Construction, David owned and managed his own construction company in Portland, Maine for 20 years.
Outside of remodeling, David enjoys skiing, mountain climbing and playing rock music.
Tyler Zweydorff
Remodeler
Although we've known Tyler for years - he is Chris' son after all, he officially joined the Owens team in 2019 as a full-time carpenter's assistant. He has a great sense of humor and is always ready with a smile. "I'm learning from the best and I love applying what I've learned on the job site to my home projects."

Tyler and his wife Holly welcomed a new baby girl into the world this year. In addition to being a new dad, Tyler plays soccer and continues to renovate the family home.
Mike Sheridan
General Manager
Mike started with Owens Construction in 1994 as a staff carpenter while attending The Ohio State University. Upon graduation, he spent four years as an active duty US Marine Corps Officer. In 2000 he returned to Owens Construction as the General Manager while continuing service in the USMC Reserve as a Colonel. Mike values his diverse experience and professional education. He is currently pursuing his Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) designation and has earned the Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation. "I enjoy figuring out how we can help people reach their goals alongside the challenge of maintaining Owens Construction's incredible standards of construction professionalism."

Mike lives in Westerville with his wife Andrea. His favorite pastimes include working on his boat, riding his motorcycle and being active.
Pam Shisler
Cruise Director
Pam has been with Owens since spring of 2008 but has been working with Owens as a customer since well before then.  As Cruise Director, Pam makes sure the remodeling experience for our customers is a positive one.  “My favorite part of working for Owens is helping the customer explore all the different design options for their project and creating that excitement about the finished product.  Remodeling is often stressful, but I like to help the customer find the fun in the process too!”
Pam lives in downtown Columbus with her husband, Eric. They have three grown children who currently live in Chicago and Atlanta. When Pam isn’t designing, she enjoys traveling, cooking and walking and biking all around her urban oasis!
Rebecca Burdock
Office Manager
Rebecca joined the Owens Construction team in 2021. With a background in fine art and graphic design she brings a love of design to her position. "I love the variety my job has to offer. My favorite part of working for Owens is the people. I value the relationships I have developed with my teammates. I learn so much from them and our customers are incredible."

When she is not working at Owens, Rebecca is either relaxing with her family or pursuing artistic endeavors with her small business. In 2022 she illustrated her first children's book, Sunny the Firefly. This year she is one of the featured artists in Picture Worthington | Art Walk - an outdoor gallery throughout Old Worthington.
